SHawkins is the main character of ECKVA, the owner of the eckvanet YouTube channel, and the owner of the SHawkins Twitter account.

History[]

Years ago, SHawkins applied for a position at ECKVA Network while it was still around. However, according to them, they never got the position that they hired for. Around the same time, they were taking a medication called Preaxin. Later on, they inherited a run down house from an unknown family member, but lacked the money to fix it. One day, while they were clearing it out, they discovered that the house could picked up ECKVA broadcast signals, which were thought to be long gone. After discovering these signals, they set up an automated system to detect when broadcasts have been picked up, record them, and send the recorded broadcasts to their computer. They created a YouTube channel to upload the broadcasts to, and created a Twitter account to "keep track of things."

The audience was clued in to SHawkins when it was discovered that the Marble Hornets Twitter was following their account. Their account was private at first, but was made public soon after it was discovered, with them claiming that they probably didn't know much more than the people questioning them. It was revealed in the notes to ECKVA5 that they were the one that owned the YouTube channel. After the signal was interrupted in ECKVA5, they went to the house to figure out what disrupted it, and recorded it to create ECKVA6. They discovered that faulty wiring, in the form of the electrical socket being disconnected from the main wire, was what caused the connection to be lost, and repaired it. A few weeks after ECKVA7 was uploaded, they revealed on Twitter that they had begun receiving phone calls everyday at work at 4:52. They stated that they never heard anything on the other end of the line, even after staying on the phone for 5 minutes.

They returned to the house again in ECKVA9 after seeing the signal cut out again in ECKVA8. When they returned to the house, they found that the setup was still working, but had been disturbed with an envelope that was forcefully shoved into the electrical socket. The envelope contained a Preaxin pill and a slip of paper, which directed SHawkins to eckva.net/database/452. After going to the website and figuring out the username and password from the paper, they were able to unlock the database, which gave them access to the ARKlistener status tracker. They also heard a knock in the house, but were unable to find anyone. In the notes to ECKVA11, SHawkins revealed that the broadcast specifically referenced the house they had inherited, and said that they were going to go install a security system to prevent anyone from being broken in again, and said that they would stay away from the house after. They arrived at the house in ECKVA12, where they found that the door was unscrewed from its hinges, and that their setup had been stolen. All that remained was the keyboard of their laptop, which had the E, C, K, V, A, home, escape, and ctrl keys removed. As they looked at the keyboard, they heard knocking start up again; they followed it, finding nothing from the room that the sound originated from. When they turned around, however, they found The Interference in front of them. After seeing it, a hand reached from behind them (presumably the Broadcaster) to force feed them a pill (most likely Preaxin) as the camera cut. They were then blotted off screen.

From ECKVA13 to ECKVA15, the videos were not directly uploaded by SHawkins, but instead were uploaded by an auto upload. It is unknown whether SHawkins or the Broadcaster set up the auto upload. SHawkins twitter grew silent during this time, outside of a single tweet indicating the auto upload of ECKVA13, and a tweet made after ECKVA14, which read: "Something crawling through my brain". ECKVA14 and ECKVA15 showed brief clips of Hawkins; the former showed them back in their house, while the latter showed a recording from the perspective of their eyes as they wandered around the woods, coughed up blood, and collapsed. They regained lucidity in ECKVA16, where they found themself back in the abandoned house, and saw a strange static spot spreading on their arm. Left for them was the radio from their initial broadcast setup; a voice began to speak from it as they ran out of the house, which said: "You are the last." There were also clips at the end of ECKVA16 of a camera being dragged through grass and rushing towards a tree; it is unknown if those were from SHawkins, or from someone else.

SHawkins began manually uploading to the channel again with ECKVA16, and said in the notes that they had no recollection of what had happened, that the voice on the radio was right about them being the last, and that the spot on their arm was spreading. In ECKVA17, they revealed that the map ARKlistener accessed was a map of their home. A few months after ECKVA17, they tweeted "Extracting..." which indicated that their twitter account had been turned into a secondary output for ARKlistener. In ECKVA18, the signal moved after a broadcast, which they noted, while also stating that the spot has grown to cover nearly their entire arm. However, this was interrupted by a new broadcast, which resulted in new notes that indicated they knew of a place they needed to go to, and that they were "unlocked." It is currently unknown what being unlocked means, or what location it is that they need to go to. Their current fate is unknown.

Almost a year after ECKVA18 was uploaded, their Twitter account and YouTube channel, along with the ECKVA website, were taken over by an unknown hacker. This hacker took control of ARKlistener to upload a text adventure game called Louse, and to reveal documents related to the investigation of the ARKlistener system.

Nearly three years after the upload of ECKVA18, ECKVA19 was uploaded. In it, SHawkins is shown awakening in an different abandoned property from the one they inherited. After getting up, they look out a window, and then look down to their hands; both are entirely covered in static. After putting on a pair of blue disposable gloves, they began to explore the house, until they stumbled across a basement. While looking down in the basement, they heard someone begin to loudly come up, while appearing to make a strange, distorted screech. Panicking, SHawkins ran away, managing to stumble outside before beginning to dive into the woods surrounding the house.

Personality[]

Unknown-1

The only shot of SHawkins' face in the whole series.

Not much is known about SHawkins. They appear to be a very cautious and private person, going through great lengths to make sure the audience does not know their identity, such as by wearing gloves on camera, blocking their email address, and never showing their face on camera. They also warned people against filling out applications for ECKVA Network, believing it not to be a good idea. They also wear a mask, as shown by a reflection in the radio for ECKVA16; it is unknown if this is done for the sake of privacy, or for a health related reason, as it and the gloves could be to protect themself from something within the house.

Theories[]

It is theorized that SHawkins knows significantly more than they claim to, and may even have worked for ECKVA Network in the past. Their username matches the company assigned usernames of Danielle Scott and Andrew Raymond, with it being their first initial + last name + a four digit number. This would explain their link with ECKVA and the Broadcaster's interest in them, as the Broadcaster would theoretically be disinterested in them if they were simply a curious outsider. If SHawkins worked at ECKVA, then it is possible they actively lied about their prior employment; however, it is also possible that their memory had been altered in some way, given the reveal of their memory loss in ECKVA16.

It has not been directly confirmed, but it is heavily theorized that Quietbug in the Alis Pastry cartoons is intended to be representative of SHawkins.

SHawkins1926 and SHawkins1928[]

Throughout the series, two different variations of SHawkins' username has been seen. There is SHawkins1926, which is the handle of the twitter account that the protagonist uses, and SHawkins1928, who has been seen in archived chat logs and the ARKlistener book. The prevailing theory about this discrepancy is that SHawkins1928 is actually a relative of the protagonist, named Shelby Hawkins, who may have been the one to pass the house down to SHawkins1926. There is also a theory that Shelby is both characters, with the number being changed for an unknown reason.
